OCTOBER 2009 REPORT:  HALLOWEEN TREATS

Halloween is a spooky time, exciting for kids and fun for parents. Having interviewed several kids in the Steveston area these were the best tips to help your whole family have the best Halloween ever.

The things kids like best are going door to door and yelling trick – or – treat and getting candy. The thing kids’ dislike most getting is hair products.  The strangest thing a kid was ever given was pens and pencils.  The best thing a kid ever got was candy of course and the worst thing was hand sanitizer.

Kids eat some candy while trick or treating if their parents let them. What our school does with the candy, is collect some from each kid that wants to share, then give it to Children’s Hospital or Canucks Place for the children who can’t go out trick or treating.  After Halloween,  parents put the candy away  then let the kids choose one candy to put either in their lunch or to eat after school and then they put it  away again  after you choose your one piece of candy.

The best part about decorating houses are carving pumpkins, putting ghosts and other Halloween decorations up and then seeing what it looks like in the dark. The worst thing is ringing the doorbell as it hurts your thumb after a while so you might want to try knocking. The hardest thing is saying trick or treat, the best part is getting all the candy.  The most exciting part is when the lights aren’t on and there are haunted decorations and the dressed up homeowner answering the door.

The best kinds of costumes are Princess, Spiderman or Witch.  The best pumpkin patch is either the one by Silver City or the one by Cut Your Own Christmas Trees.  The best places to buy Halloween candies are London Drugs, Walmart, Save on Foods, Cosco , Super Grocer, Candy Aisles, or  Safeway.

At our school for Halloween we have a big party in each classroom.  We carve pumpkins and have fun.  You can dress up if you want to but you don’t have to.  It is more fun if you dress up. We usually don’t have costume parties but you can if you want to.  We always carve pumpkins, go to both pumpkin patches and we decorate our classroom with something new every year.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY HALLOWEEN
