“We are thrilled to have so many talented students participating in this year’s fair,” says Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Richmond is a diverse community with lots of interesting stories to tell. This is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the history of Richmond, told by our students.”
This free event will feature displays, demonstrations and entertainment provided by local museums, historical associations, businesses and multicultural groups as well as more than 190 students from local schools. Students from Grades 1 to 11 will showcase 55 projects to bring history to life for visitors. Six of these students will be selected to attend the first Provincial Heritage Fair being held in Kamloops at the end of May as part of BC’s 150th celebrations.
The Richmond-Delta Regional Heritage Fair will be hosted by the Richmond Museum with sponsorship from the Historica Foundation, Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Arts, School District 38, Britannia Shipyard, Steveston Rotary Club, Ministry of Education and the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunrise.
The fair is part of the Historica Fairs Program, a national initiative for enhancing Canadian history education by strengthening students’ knowledge of the diversity and uniqueness of our heritage.
The Historica Foundation of Canada is a charitable organization dedicated to helping Canadians discover the fascinating stories that make our country unique. Through education programs and authoritative resources, Canadians are connected to our many histories.
