Vancouver Sun article today: After-care isn't a luxury, it's a necessity Families struggle to find programs to care for their children after the bell rings   It is less than a week before six-year-old Sacha Goldman starts Grade 1. His mother, Karen Shaw, isn't thinking about new shoes or school supplies or that photo she'll take when he sets off for his first day of grade school.

TERRY FOX RUN STEVESTON

Sunday, September 14, 2008 at 10 am.  Garry Point Park.

There is no pre-registration or registration fee for the Terry Fox Run. Please show up at least a 1/2 hour before the start time if you wish to be involved in the official start.

1 km family route, 5 & 10 km course.

Before Terry died, he knew that an annual event would be held to commemorate his Marathon of Hope. It would be called, appropriately, The Terry Fox Run.

The first Terry Fox Run in 1981 attracted 300,000 participants across Canada and raised $3.5 million. To date, more than $400 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry's

SCHOOL ENROLMENT DROPS

B.C. school enrolment drops for 11th straight year Education budget increased to $5.67 billion this year

Education Minister Shirley Bond said Tuesday she expects enrolment in B.C. public schools to reach 542,509 students this September, down about 8,000 from last year and down 55,000 from when the Liberal administration was elected in 2001. It will be the 11th consecutive year that enrolment has fallen. Despite the dramatic drop, Bond said the provincial education budget would continue to grow to $5.67 billion this year, up 3.3 per cent from last year and 23 per cent from 2001.
