B.C. school enrolment drops for 11th straight year Education budget increased to $5.67 billion this year

Education Minister Shirley Bond said Tuesday she expects enrolment in B.C. public schools to reach 542,509 students this September, down about 8,000 from last year and down 55,000 from when the Liberal administration was elected in 2001. It will be the 11th consecutive year that enrolment has fallen. Despite the dramatic drop, Bond said the provincial education budget would continue to grow to $5.67 billion this year, up 3.3 per cent from last year and 23 per cent from 2001. Bond said the overall enrolment decline
